This is a moderate trek recommended for hikers with some experience at high altitude. The Rocoyutoc hike takes you into the heart of the Cordillera Huayhuash, offering dramatic views of snowcapped peaks, rugged terrain, and alpine lakes.
The ultimate, complete Los Cedros – Alpamayo – Santa Cruz trek in Cordillera Blanca starts in the Los Cedros valley, takes you through to the Alpamayo base camp and concludes with the classic Santa Cruz Trek.
Get away from the busier hiking routes with a trek to the quieter, more remote southern flanks of the Cordillera Blanca. The Olleros – Carhuascancha trek is a longer, slightly more challenging version of the 3D2N Olleros – Chavin trek (see here) as it includes ascents to three separate passes, giving you uninterrupted access to magnificent views of Mount Uruashraju (5,722m/18,773ft), Mount Huantsan (6,395m/20,981ft), Mount Rurec (5,700m/18,701ft) and more, as well as the glacial iridescent lakes formed at the base of these peaks
This trek combines a visit to the Wilcahuain ruins in the village of Wilcahuain (which means “Grandson’s house” in Quechua) with a hike to Lake Ahuac, situated approximately six kilometres away.
This is an easy trek suitable for hikers of all fitness levels, including those with little or no previous hiking experience. Lake Wilcacocha is located just 10 kilometres south-west of Huaraz, which makes it convenient for those not wishing to venture out too far from Huaraz.
This is a challenging trek as the trails are often narrow, unmarked and steep and you will ascend to two passes (i.e. Huapi pass (5,050m/16,568ft) and Ishinca pass (5,350m/17,552ft)) at high altitudes in a short amount of time. Accordingly, trekkers must be well acclimatised and bear a good degree of fitness. From these passes, you will be rewarded with panoramic views of some of the best peaks the Cordillera Blanca has to offer: Mount Ishinca (5,550m/18,209ft), Mount Ranrapalca (6,612m/20,217ft) and many others.
The Santa Cruz trek has been touted as one of the “holy grails of trails across the world” by the National Geographic as it serves up a bit of everything the Cordillera Blanca has to offer in a short amount of time. Views along the trek include dramatic sights of deep blue lagoons, glaciers and Andean flora and fauna, with many of the imposing snow-capped peaks that line the Cordillera Blanca serving as the perfect backdrop. It is no wonder that this trek is one of the busiest trekking routes in the range.
At the base of Mount Urus (5,495m/18,028ft) lies the twin lakes of Urus Cocha, well known for their shimmery turquoise waters.
The Quilcayhuanca – Cojup trek is a challenging one as you are taken through steep inclines and narrow, often unmarked trails during the course of the journey. This less commonly visited trek enables you to gain a deeper, more intimate appreciation for the beauty of the Cordillera Blanca through observation of the spectacular collection of glacial summits along the way and camping by the beautiful lakes of Cuchillacocha and Cojup.
The Lake Shallap trek takes place at a more remote location about an hour’s drive from Huaraz. Because of its remote nature, the route is less frequented by travellers, which allows trekkers to have unobstructed and personal access to the untouched landscape.
This is a popular trek which offers stunning views throughout the journey to Lake Rajucolta. As you traverse through rolling fields and towering cliff walls, you will also be able to admire the majestic Mount Huantsan (6,395m/20,981ft), which looms in the distance.
With a catchment area of 44 square kilometres, Lake Paron is the largest lake in the Cordillera Blanca.
Lake 69 is undoubtedly one of the most beautiful lakes the region has to offer, with its crystal blue waters spanning across 12 kilometres, formed by the melting ice of Mount Chacraraju (6,108m/20,039ft), a majestic snow-capped mountain that sits directly behind the lake.
The Olleros – Chavin trek is a relatively easy one, ideal for people of all ages and those who favour a change from the other busier trekking routes.
If you fancy a more remote, less frequented trek, this hike to the Chunta Huanca hill is the trek for you. The starting point of the trek is from the village of Macashca, which is located just 15 kilometres south-east of Huaraz, so more time can be spent hiking outdoors and less on commuting.
The Ishinca – Cojup trek provides ample opportunity for hikers to revel in the splendour of the Cordillera Blanca and its majestic landscape within a short time frame, suitable for trekkers with limited time.

Mount Alpamayo, which is known to be the “most beautiful” mountain in the world, is undoubted the most famous peak in the Cordillera Blanca. Mount Tocllaraju is located in the Ishinca valley, which lies in the very heart of the Cordillera Blanca. At a height of 6,032m/19,790ft, the towering Mount Toccllaraju is frequently scaled by climbers drawn to its beautiful, pyramidal-shaped disposition.
Towering at 6,768m, Mount Huascaran is the highest mountain in Peru. Given the high altitudes, it is essential for climbers to be in excellent physical shape with previous climbing experience and well-acclimatized to the environment.
Mount Urus (5,495m/18,028ft) is located in Ishinca valley, which lies in the very heart of the Cordillera Blanca.
The 3D2N climb to Mount Pisco (5,752m/18,871ft) is ideal for beginners with little or no prior climbing experience.

At 5,686m/18,655ft, Mount Vallunaraju’s twin-summits are prominently seen peeking their heads up above Huaraz. The Mount Vallunaraju climb is popular with climbers of all fitness levels given its close proximity to the city and also because it is relatively easy and can be completed in just two days.
The 9D8N Huayhuash Classic Trek is a slightly condensed version of the 12D11N Huayhuash Classic Trek as we navigate down a different route from the original circuit on day 6 and cut out the two rest days at the campsites by Carhuacocha and Jahuacocha lakes (giving the trek a higher grade of difficulty)
