The life of Heimer Guillen Celestino

Heimer Guillen Celestino grew up in the small village of Jacu, which is located east of Huaraz, Peru, and inhabited by 25 families (approximately 70 people), surrounded by the wonders of nature and peaks such as Mount Huamashraju and Mount Churup.

Driven by his love for the wilderness and a sense of adventure, he kicked off his career in the Peruvian tourism industry in 2001 as a freelance muleteer and transporter assistant to trekking groups navigating the mountain ranges of the Cordillera Blanca and Cordillera Huayhuash in Peru. Heimer later progressed to becoming a kitchen assistant and in 2007, decided to obtain his qualifications as a trekking guide by pursuing an intensive course in high-altitude mountain guiding at the Centro de Estudios De Alta Montaña, Casa De Guias, in Huaraz, Peru. He has since been working as a freelance guide to both trekking and climbing groups in the region.

In his free time, Heimer keeps busy by herding sheep, cows and donkeys and condor watching. His farm also produces many varieties of potatoes, quinoa and wheat.
