OVERVIEW
This is a popular trek which offers stunning views throughout the journey to Lake Rajucolta. As you traverse through rolling fields and towering cliff walls, you will also be able to admire the majestic Mount Huantsan (6,395m/20,981ft), which looms in the distance.
The trek is relatively easy and ideal for hikers of all ages and those who require acclimatisation before embarking on longer, more demanding treks.

DETAILED ITINERARY
Huaraz (3,090m/10,138ft) – Huascaran National Park Entrance (4,000m/13,123ft)
- We head south-east of Huaraz by way of our private transport, passing through Macashca, a local village
- After driving for approximately one and a half hours, we arrive at the entrance of Huascaran National Park where the trek begins
Huascaran National Park Entrance (4,000m/13,123ft) – Lake Rajucolta (4,300m/14,108ft)
- Traverse across flat terrain through Rajucolta Valley, following a river stream that eventually leads to Lake Rajucolta, which is located at the base of Mount Huantsan (6,395m/20,981ft)
- Return via the same route back to the entrance of Huascaran National Park, where our private transport awaits for our ride back to Huaraz
- Total hiking time is about five hours
