OVERVIEW

Lake 69 is undoubtedly one of the most beautiful lakes the region has to offer, with its crystal blue waters spanning across 12 kilometres, formed by the melting ice of Mount Chacraraju (6,108m/20,039ft), a majestic snow-capped mountain that sits directly behind the lake.

With views of the famous Llanganuco lakes and several other mountains such as Mount Huascaran (6,768m/22,205ft), Mount Chopicalqui (6,354m/20,846ft), Mount Chacraraju (6,108m/20,039ft) etc., the trek provides a great introduction to the beauty of the Cordillera Blanca mountain range. It is also ideal as an acclimatisation hike for those embarking on longer treks thereafter.

On our way to the starting point of the trek, you will get the chance to explore Yungay (approximately one hour’s drive north of Huaraz), a town which was completely destroyed in a devastating earthquake in May 1970 which killed over 70,000 inhabitants.
